How we reached this

Acesulfame potassium, synthetic non-caloric sweetener ~200× sucrose, FDA-approved since 1988 and permitted in the EU with an established ADI. IARC has not classified it. Rated mid-scale because long-term human outcome data remain thin relative to how widely it is used, and it is commonly blended with sucralose or aspartame so real intake is hard to attribute — not for any established harm.
