Sugar alcohol (polyol) sweetener. FDA GRAS at intended-use levels. ~60% sweetness of sucrose; not glycemic. Concern: dose-dependent laxative effect (FDA-required label warning at ≥50 g/day). Common in sugar-free candy, gum, dental products.
